Healthy Mummy, Vicki, shares with us that as an adult she has always struggled with her weight. That was until she started the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge.

“There were so many days where I hated leaving the house and getting dressed, as nothing fit me. I felt like I was suffocating in my own skin. I was in a dark and sad place, honestly, the Healthy Mummy saved me!”

“The Healthy Mummy honestly saved me!”

Vicki Walsh, 35, from Sydney (Seven Hills) is a mum to a 3-year-old girl. She has been following the Healthy Mummy since July 2017.

Vicki shares with us that as an adult she has always struggled with her weight. “After my daughter was born in November 2016, I reached my biggest, which made me so sad and mortified.

“There were so many days where I hated leaving the house and getting dressed, as nothing fit me. I felt like I was suffocating in my own skin. I was in a dark and sad place, and honestly, the Healthy Mummy saved me!”

Vicki adds, “I’m not sure about the exact weight loss amount, to be honest. I wasn’t 100% sure of my starting weight because I was too ashamed to weigh myself. It is around the 20 kilos mark,  I know I was coming close to 95  kilos.  I am now floating around 75 kilos and I have gone from pushing a size 18 in clothes, to comfortably wearing a 12 (most of the time, depending on the cut)”

“I’ve gone not drinking a lot of water, eating poorly, drinking 1 coke zero a day (sad face) and exercising 2 or so times a week. To now fast forward and I’ve cut the crap out of my diet. I wouldn’t even know what a Coke zero is anymore. My water intake is 2+Litres a day and I move my body 5-6 times a week with a new found passion for running (which I’ve never run in my entire life until about 15 months ago!)”

“The main change I saw initially was my mental health changed for the better.

“In the beginning I hated myself. I wasn’t comfortable with what I was wearing. I hated getting dressed to leave the house as nothing fit. There were many tears!”

“After starting to shift weight, my mental state has definitely changed.

“I have gone from self loathing to self loving. I’m comfortable in my skin now because I know I’ve worked so hard to get where I am now.

“My physical change is the drop in clothing sizes, it’s definitely a boost knowing I can find clothes ” off the rack” without an issue. I am now focusing on toning muscle and I can see the changes in my arms and shoulder areas which is nice to get some definition there.

“I  use the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge App to record everything in it. It’s my bible to my food! I love the new exercise programs in it, as they are exactly what I am working on. I love that I can access them anywhere. I even use them at the gym as well!

Vicki recommends the Healthy Mummy Smoothies and Supplements

Vicki shares, “The Healthy Mummy Smoothies are the one thing I religiously use. 6 days a week and Sunday is my ‘breakfast’ day where I have something other than a Smoothie for breakfast. I have a sweet tooth so my faves include Raspberry ripple and Choc fudge, but my ultimate fave is the Caramel powder.”

“The other Healthy Mummy product I use is SuperGreens.

Vicki’s favourite 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge recipes

“OMG my ‘faves’ list in the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge app is so long! We all have the same meal for dinner (no way I’m making everyone else a seperate one, plus, it’s all family friendly!).”

“They are the high rotation meals in our house. I also love the simple ones like Easy Fried Rice and Greek Beef Burgers for nights we need a quick meal on the table.”

Dad Friendly Beef Burgers

I have so many fave snacks it’s hard to narrow them down, but my top five would be:

Vicki’s top tips for success

  1. Plan! Even if it’s a little, plan what your weekly food will look like, write it out and stick it on the fridge, or on a whiteboard. I’m a little old school like that. I still write it out even though it’s in the app. This helps me do my weekly shop which I get delivered on Friday’s so by the weekend I can start my prep.
  2. Use measurements, ditch the scales! Don’t get bogged down in the numbers and what number you see. Go by the way your clothes feel, as the numbers on the scale are not a true reflection and can fluctuate at different times of the month, etc. Measurements will show you the true results, esp. if you are into toning, as muscle weighs more than fat.
  3. Make time for self-care. This is one thing the HM has really taught me! I am just as important as everyone else in my family and I need and thrive on my “me time”. It’s not selfish, it’s important to look after ourselves first. Happy mum = happy family!

“I love that its not a diet, its a sustainable healthy lifestyle. Healthy Mummy has taught me how to nourish my body with tasty, amazing food, and taught me that I am totally worth it!”

Vicki’s motivation tips

  1. Start small. Don’t get overwhelmed by doing everything at once.
  2. Start with getting your food right. Then get water right, Then worry about exercise. It will fall into place.
  3. The Healthy Mummy is a lifestyle and not a diet – so it’s not a race to the finish, it all takes time.
